Öjebyn Black Currant is an old Swedish cultivar widely grown across northern Europe and Finland. It began as a garden selection in northern Sweden and was evaluated at the Öjebyn research station before entering commerce in the 1950s. It later became a parent of Ben Sarek. Compact, upright bushes carry large clusters of glossy black fruit in mid to late summer. The berries have an aromatic sweet tart flavour suited to fresh eating, jam, jelly, and juice.
