Cortland Nova Red is a redder strain of Cortland, an apple first bred in 1898. The large fruit has deep red colour over yellow skin and crisp white flesh that resists browning.
The apples are juicy with balanced sweetness and are used fresh, in salads, and for pies, cobblers, and crisps. Fruit ripens from late September into early October.

Apples need pollen from a different apple or crabapple to set fruit. A second variety in your yard will do it, and so will a neighbour's apple or fruiting crabapple. Double flowered ornamental crabapples make no pollen and do not count.
