Bunchberry (Cornus canadensis) is a low spreading North American woodland groundcover with clusters of bright red berries in late summer. The fruit feeds birds and small mammals.

Whorls of oval leaves surround small white to greenish white flowers in late spring. Bunchberry grows naturally in cool moist acidic forest soil and partial to full shade.

How to stratify seed

In the fridge. Put the seed in a bag with a damp medium such as peat moss, vermiculite, sand or coco coir. The medium is only there to hold moisture. Keep the bag in the fridge, above freezing, for the cold period shown, then sow.

Or outside. Sow the seed outdoors in the fall and let winter do the cold period.
